Comparison of Driving Difficulty Between Bilateral Cataract and Non-Cataract Elderly Drivers in Malaysia: A Preliminary Study

An age-related ocular disease such as cataract that causes reduction of visual functions would affect the individual driving performance. The aim this research was to compare difficulties between Malaysian drivers with bilateral cataracts and without cataract. This cross-sectional study involved measurement [visual acuity (VA) contrast sensitivity (CS)] difficulty 61 respondents who had valid license actively driving. Subjects were divided into group (n=30) age/gender matched non-cataracts control (n=31). Results showed mean±SD for composite score in 72.08±15.95 87.50±12.60 respectively. also significant mean difference (p=0.000).
